Biography - Darnell Z. Blackburn
Darnell was born and raised in the City of Detroit and attended Cass Technical High School. Upon graduating from Cass Tech he enrolled at Michigan State University. From there he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.
Upon graduating he was hired as a police officer at the MSU Police Department. Darnell left MSU Police Department to take a position with the City of Auburn Hills Police Department. As a police officer he worked road patrol, community policing, narcotics and other special assignments.
Darnell is currently employed full time with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (referred to as MCOLES). MCOLES is the regulatory agency for all law enforcement entities in the State of Michigan. They oversee training for police agencies as well as develop curriculum for police academies and set licensing standards.
Darnell received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2007. He began teaching in 2008 and he is currently an adjunct professor at Macomb Community College in their Criminal Justice program.
Darnell is the founder and owner of PRAT LLC a consulting company that specializes in Public Speaking engagements and soft skills trainings for organizations in Cultural Competency, Verbal De-Escalation, and Implicit Bias.
Darnell has acted as a Facilitator with the US. Department of Justice alongside the previous Attorney General Loretta Lynch and the current Attorney General Jeff Sessions on police and community relations. He sits on a number of committees and currently holds numerous certifications. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., NOBLE and several other professional organizations.
